47 Acts of Kindness (9)

From Amy in Richardson:

A surprised young man at a McDonald's drive-through is enjoying a $10 tip tonight.

***

From Brandy in Frisco:

Tyra, I had so much fun being a part of honoring Steve today. It was awesome to share Nothing Bundt Cakes with my amazing team and our special librarian! :-) As well as taking Tiff's treats to the caretakers for my mom. A five dollar tip at the sonic made one young man very happy. Hoping to find a few more ways tonight to share 47 Acts of Kindness. Thank you for inviting us to take part!

***

From Aunt Melane and Uncle Greg in Anna:

Greg and I went to Anna's truck stops and gave Subway gift cards to truckers. We came across this truck and figured this unfortunate driver might especially appreciate one. His truck is the one stuck in the culvert. He did appreciate it and told us his father passed away from cancer.

We also went to Brookshire's to purchase a Starbucks gift card, then gave it to our cashier, who happens to be the sweetest, most genuine person you will ever meet.

***

From Karen in Atlanta, Ga.:

We made a donation to the International Rescue Committee:    www.rescue.org
We love this annual tradition and you!

***

From Jessi in Mountain View, Ark.:

We gifted a few shares of a goat in Steve's memory with hopes of helping a family in need.  We've fallen in love with raising goats over the past couple of years, making this Act of Kindness especially heartwarming and significant to us.

***

From Mel in Lubbock:

Vera, Thomas and I took restaurant gift cards to Cook Children's Hospital cardiac unit for use by parents of kids there who need a break from the hospital routine. It carried a double meaning for us. First, in memory of Steve. And, also, in honor of Thomas' cousin Evin Paige Armstrong who needed heart surgery immediately after her birth two years ago. She's now a happy two-year-old and rambunctious as she should be.

Our favorite and final act of kindness in memory of Steve Damm on his 47th birthday: Give flowers to a stranger. This is one we do every year, and it always gets the best response. There's something about fresh flowers that really brightens a day.

***

Tonight we surprised people at Giant with gift cards. We delivered some to the cashiers who are always kind and providing sunshine at the end of a long shopping trip and some to shoppers at the store who looked like they needed sunshine. 47 Acts of Kindness (6)

From Debbie in Frisco:

While visiting a family member in the hospital, I came by a lady who was waiting for the elevator beside me. She spontaneously told me why she was there and that she had driven from Roanoke for her daughter who was in the hospital. She needed to go home tonight to be with her little one, but would return early in the morning to be with daughter before she had her surgery. I gave her a Starbucks gift card knowing she would need the coffee in the morning to start her long day.

47 Acts of Kindness (5)

From Uncle Jim in Arlington, Va.:

Did my Metrocard "drop" at Reagan National Airport. Metro has gone paperless (smart card like London and New York) - providing a $6 card gets the visitors to DC on their way quickly. One gentleman is in the military and this is his first time in DC - I received a hearty handshake and a "For Steve" as thanks. (Also helped a few folks with the card vending terminals)

***

From Shannon in Frisco:

Brought GOOD coffee to the Newman staff today!

***

From Dean in Sulphur Springs:

Took a stack of 47 Acts cards with me thru the Whataburger drive-thru at lunch today. Madison, the cashier (whom I know from my Sunday visits), teared up as I told her about Steve and how we are celebrating his birthday. Then I bought lunch for my worship leader and the guy in the truck behind me. Not sure how far the good deed was passed, but I'll ask on Sunday when I see Madison again! This day always makes me smile ‪#‎dammkind‬

***

From Beverly in Frisco:

I so enjoyed spreading a little Steve-love all day! I started this morning by leaving money and cards at Snug on the Square, where I was meeting with friends. I checked back with the barista before we left, and she said people were very pleasantly surprised! She was amazed, however, when people took the card, but wanted to pay for their coffee to keep the giving going! In addition, we shared a special moment when she told me that her husband also died of cancer five years ago.💗
This afternoon, I had fun delivering my favorite pumpkin bars to all of our immediate neighbors. They were all very surprised and interested in hearing Steve's story. I did have to "test" them to make sure all was well before giving them away! smile emoticon
Thank you for creating such a beautiful event to honor such a special man! It was truly a joyous day! Sending love and hugs to you, Coop, and KT!

From Laura in Seneca, S.C.:

The third acts of kindness from our family comes from our 14 year old Case. Today he helped his keyboarding teacher clean up and turn all her computers off and then helped his science teacher cut out items for their lesson this week. He then told each of them Steve's story and gave them the flyer to pay it forward. They were touched and we are super proud of him for passing on Steve's story, even though he never met him.‪#‎dammkind‬

From Suzanne in Garland:

***

From Shari in Lucas:

In my third Act of Kindness today, I wanted to bless the young man who processed the renewal of my license at DPS but he was not able to take a gift, so I found a young mom waiting with her infant son and gave her a gift card to Subway. From Aunt Ami in Austin:

On my way to work today, I yielded to any drivers trying to break into traffic on my stop and go ride to work, smiled and waved.
At my allergist office, while in the waiting room, I could not help but overhear a very angry and rude gentleman raise a fuss at the sweet receptionist and other staff members at the front desk, then he stormed out saying he'd never be back. When I checked out I complimented the same receptionist on always being sweet, professional and for always taking great care of me. Oh, and I bit my tongue so I didn't say something regrettable the rude man.
After that I headed to the post office. First, I ducked into the Great Harvest Bread Company a few doors down and bought some pumpkin spice muffins for the clerks in the post office. I expressed to the same sweet lady that has waited on me for many years now, how much I appreciate her pleasant smile and professionalism when taking care of everyone. Also brought some of those yummy pumpkin muffins back to the office for our staff to enjoy!
Days not over yet!
