51 Acts of Kindness (1)

From Melane in Howe:

Yesterday, the girls and I were in Downtown Dallas and drove down a street of way too many homeless people. At that point we knew exactly what this year's Act of Kindness would be for our family.

Today at church our pastor explained what we do every year for Steve's birthday and put out an invitation to anyone that wanted to join in our shopping spree to make 'Homeless Care Packages'.  With the help of our awesome church family and their generous monetary donations, and a sweet family that went shopping with us, we were able to make 30 care packages filled with food, toiletries, socks, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, etc.!

We took them to the area we drove through yesterday, parked, and gave away everything in about 5 minutes. These people were so appreciative, but we ran out quickly, so we left and came back with 50 burritos and quesadillas from Taco Bell.

We asked what they wanted most, so when we come back the next time, we are able to bring what they really need. Now, I offer all of you this call-to-action. We will be headed back soon with their requests: jackets (2X was a popular request), long sleeve t-shirts, sleeping bags, work boots, shoes, and ready-to-eat foods. If you'd like to donate any of these items, please email gregorywoodbury@gmail.com

From Carlie in Frisco, who found books that someone purposefully left on our greenbelt:

I wanted to reach out and thank you for spreading kindness!  My three kids (3 under 2.5) are so excited about the art book they found at “the green park!”  Sending positive thoughts to you and your family.  We will pass along kindness in your husband’s honor this week.

From Julianne in Frisco:

We had the best morning cheering on the Susan G Komen 3 day walkers on their last day of the event and handing out over 40 Starbucks gift cards in memory of Steve.  So many people grabbed one and walked by and then read the cars and ran back to give us hugs and tell us how awesome the attached note was telling about him.

From Lisa in Frisco:

Started #dammkind an evening early. My oven crashed so I took my mini pumpkin bread loaves and mini chocolate bundt cakes to my friend Sylvia Freyling’s house to cook. In exchange, she received the first pumpkin bread loaf to take to the hospital tonight as she is staying overnight with her 86 year old dad. #dammkind two way.

From Cindy in Frisco:

Paul and I participated in 51 Acts of Kindness by accident yesterday morning. We went to a fast food restaurant at DNT/Eldorado around 5 am yesterday morning to grab breakfast before the FEF/Gary Burns Fun Run. I immediately noticed a young person in a booth with his jacket over his head sleeping. I asked the employees if I could purchase and leave for him one if their gift cards for him and they said yes. We purchased a $20 gift card.

From Janell in Frisco:

Good morning! Trav and I decided to buy donuts for all our youth Sunday schoolers this morning and talk about spreading kindness. Fourteenth-century mystic Meister Eckhart said, “Do not think that saintliness comes from occupation; it depends rather on what one is. The kind of work we do does not make us holy, but we may make it holy.”
