Preparing for Steve's service

Our church staff plus lots of volunteers are preparing a lovely service in memory of our sweet Steve.

Yesterday some of us met with Pastor Andy to review Steve's wishes.

Steve's thoughts included:

"This is the ADD generation, so it should last about an hour." (Note to guests: It may be a little longer.)

"It should be a celebration ... maybe even a roast."

"The service is not about my resume. I am not applying for a job." (I can just hear Steve saying this, and it makes me smile every time I think about it.)

"The service is not about me. It's about sharing Christ with others." (Well, a lot of the service will be about Steve. He's worth celebrating.)

As a remimder:

1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12
St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Parkway, Plano

Its amazing how Steve thought. I have seen a lot of love in my life but this love is simply beautiful and enduring. Its going to long long after Steve is gone. People like Steve don't die Tyra, they just become immortal. I called Steve's cell phone yesterday when I was trying to reach you and I heard the voice that I used to hear initially when he used to call me or I used to call him. It felt so nice to hear it. I haven't cried as much as I have in the past three days in a very long time. But the sadness comes from knowing how wonderful he was. Since the day he passed away, I find myself working a little harder, trying even harder, walking an extra mile and being even nicer to people any where I go. In Steve's short but amazing life, so many have found the right lessons for living. I do know now that God sent us Steve for all of us to be better people. Hang tight my friend and celebrate his wonderful life to the fullest. This love will never end. I do want to try to life my life to its fullest but at the end of my own life, I will be looking forward to hanging out with Steve in a good place. Lots of love and hugs for saturday. Shilpa

Tyra,
We wanted to tell you that on Sept 12 at 2pm EST (1pm your time), we former members of the Michigan Marching Band that knew and loved Steve, paused and honored his life at our tailgate before the game. We shared stories, toasted his accomplishments-especially his beautiful marriage to you and your wonderful kids, which we can see even though we do not know you all personally- and marveled at his strength and grace as he fought to get well. We will never forget him and the joyful time we had in band with him. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with all of us during this journey.
